Here are some facts about the bread.
When people hear that you have a teacup Maltipoo, the most common reaction would be high-pitched squeals and screeches, peppered with bursts of "cute" and "precious." To be fair, this particular breed of dog is both cute and precious, but what many people do not realize is how deep still waters can run. There are plenty of things about this dog that non-owners do not understand, or have yet to discover.
What Type Of Dog Is It?
The teacup Maltipoo is a deliberate mix of two small purebred dogs. Its parents are a purebred Maltese and a purebred toy or miniature Poodle. This hybrid dog has the word "teacup" attached to its name because it usually weighs under ten pounds as a fully grown adult. This unusual mix of two canine species was introduced to the world as a special breed that is not only tiny and very adorable, but possesses a temperament that covers the best of its parents' worlds. When it comes to color, this breed is available in white, cream, black, grey, and light brown. The most common of these would have to be the pure white ones. Its silky fur can either be straight or wavy and regular brushing and grooming is highly recommended.
What Makes The Teacup Maltipoo So Special?
Like other deliberately mixed dogs, there is rhyme and reason to why breeders chose to do so. The combination of two species' physical traits and characteristics will undoubtedly create a wonderful fusion, and this Maltipoo is the epitome of a mix that went perfectly right. Here are some reasons why dog owners are falling all over themselves to own one of these little fur balls.
1. GOOD TEMPERAMENT
This breed of teacup dog is said to have excellent temperament. They tend to be very friendly and good natured not just to humans, but to fellow animals as well. This means that this dog will be a good addition to a home with other pets, or the perfect companion to someone who loves entertaining. Keep in mind that this particular breed will not make good guard dogs as they tend to get overtly friendly with people, even strangers. Additionally, you should advise visiting friends and family to be careful when carrying or playing with the dog as they tend to be very fragile and can suffer from a fracture if they are dropped, even from a short height. Because of its small size and fragility, it is not recommended that people with young children adopt this dog. This is because children tend to be very rough and will not understand the importance of being gentle during play. You do not want to put the latest member of your family at risk, so if you have young children, it is advisable to adopt dogs of another breed.
2. ENERGETIC LIFESTYLE
Although perfect to be kept indoors, these dogs require exercise and love living an active lifestyle. People living in apartments enjoy owning his tiny breed because even in a small apartment, the dog has enough space to run around and get its daily dose of exercise. However, you have to regularly take it out for walks so that it can get some fresh air and proper exercise that does not confine it to four walls. When your dog is cooped up for too long, it will release its excess energy by barking, showing aggression, chewing and whining. To avoid these forms of undesirable behavior, walk your dog on a daily basis. Like children, they love attention and play time so ensure that you inject as much personal attention as you can on your dog whenever you have time. Not only will this build the bond between owner and pet, it will also encourage your fur ball to appreciate and respect play time.
3. INTELLIGENT
All dogs are intelligent, some more so than others. The Maltipoo is undoubtedly one of the smarter breeds. Because they are so clever, they are relatively easy to house train, especially when they are puppies. However, keep in mind that you have to play an active role in training them. Leaving them in a kennel or box while you are out all day does not count as good house training. Ensure that you spend enough time teaching them in the early stages and offer them treats and praise when they exude desirable behavior. The same goes for training them to do tricks. Although they may learn things a little faster than other breeds, they still need a healthy dose of mental stimulation to thrive.
4. HEALTHY
Although debatable, the crossbreed between a Poodle and Maltese has resulted in a dog that is generally healthier than its parents. Because of the introduction of a new set of genes, diseases that commonly affect the Poodle and Maltese tend to not severely affect the Maltipoo. However, this species of dog has been known to be afflicted by the same degenerative eye disease that is common amongst Poodles. Respiratory problems are also not uncommon amongst Maltipoos who live in damp and excessively humid conditions, so keep these issues in mind if you are deciding whether to get this breed.
5. HYPOALLERGENIC
The combination of a purebred Maltese and Poodle has brought about a wonderful generation of non-shedding and hypoallergenic dogs. However, this does not mean that dog lovers with severe allergies should run to the closest pet store and buy one of these right away. All this means is that those who suffer from allergies may not react as badly to this canine breed than others. Breeders and pet stores have encouraged those with allergies to spend some time around other Maltipoo dogs before adopting, just to gauge if one's allergic reactions will flare up. If you end up taking a dog home, the addition of an air purifier or filter and a good vacuum cleaner is also highly recommended if you or someone at home suffers from a mild case of allergies.
